Technology Integration
Instructor: Mrs. Roubie   
At Lake Ridge Elementary School, we use technology to support and enhance the teaching and learning of Virginia Standards of Learning objectives.

Technology support is provided by Mrs. Roubie, the Instructional Technology Resource Teacher, who provides instructional and training support, and Mrs. Pittman, our Technology Support Specialist, who provides hardware and network support througout the school

We have a computer lab with 28 computers and two printers. Our classroom teachers have scheduled time in the computer lab weekly, and also use technology to enhance instruction in their classrooms. We have laptops, digital cameras, Flip cameras, digital microscopes, student response systems, and document cameras, all of which may be checked out by any teacher.   Homeroom classes have Promethean ActivBoards for daily use.

Technology Enhanced Learning
Here are some of the ways our teachers and students have been using technology to support and enhance learning in the computer lab.   Students in grades 3-5 also use laptops in their classrooms.
Kindergarten
  • Learning about recycling through videos and activities
1st Grade
  • Practicing measurement and subtraction skills
2nd Grade
  • Creating alliterative alphabet pages using Pixie
  • Exploring continents and oceans in Google Earth
3rd Grade 
  • Learning how to use tools for SOL testing
  • Using practice test items provided by VDOE

Here are some of the ways our teachers and students have been using technology to support and enhance learning in the computer lab.   Students in grades 3-5 also use laptops in their classrooms.
Kindergarten
  • Creating 100 Day Pictures
  • Using KidPix software; stamping, typing, and fill tools 
1st Grade
  • Writing sentences with math problems
  • Demonstrating understanding of seaons of the year using Pixie 
2nd Grade
  • Demonstrating understanding of synonyms and antonyms
  • Creating graphic representations of words using kerpoof.com
  • Taking Star Reading tests
3rd Grade 
  • Demonstrating understanding of types of resources
4th Grade
  • Students have been creating bar graphs from data they entered into spreadsheets while conducting science experiments.
